Some amazing stuff here.

There are marketing people out there who dream of the day when the product they are representing is so highly sought after that initial demand is higher than production capability, and that a premium can be asked, and paid, for the first run. Meanwhile, there are a number of people who are incensed that they aren't able to get in on that first run, or that it isn't offered at a strictly first come, first served basis.

All this for an engine package that won't even be legal to race until 2015.

Does anyone really believe that a few months head start with the new engine will put everybody else so far behind that they won't even be able to keep up with the few who paid extra? Not likely...

This isn't F1 with constant updates from one week to the next. Those who run up front now will most likely run up front with the new package. We have a small enough, and honest enough community that any new information learned about the engine, or set up tweaks, will quickly make its way into the population. I doubt anyone is doing any extensive testing anyway. By the time the car is National Points legal, we will all have a pretty good idea as to what works. Getting the engine installed now, or in March, or in July, isn't going to make much difference come 2015. It might even prove to be better to have waited since it's possible that a few glitches may be discovered, and possible updates to fix those glitches may be included in later kits.

Kudos to Erik, and especially Mike Davies, for putting together such a great new package that such drama can be created. It's pretty cool that so many are so anxious to get on board that some of them are willing to pay extra for the honor.

Just wait until our very deep field of driving talent gets to showcase a car that actually sounds like a real race car! Should be a great show!

Nice job!

The process closes today, with 160 total reservations already; anyone in the lottery has an equal chance to get a kit when they hoped. We cannot accommodate 160 people on the date of their choosing. Anyone not in the reservation process is now guaranteed to not be able to get a GEN3 until around mid-2015; exactly as we predicted. The 12-16 a month keeps us at roughly the overheads we have now, recognizes our logistical limitations (building size and equipment availability), respects the need to assemble with care as well as the absolute need to 100% dyno test and equalize each engine. Without that last part, there is no Spec in Spec Racer Ford.

Erik,

At an average output of 14/month about 200 kits should be available by the end of 2014. 160 kits by mid 2015 is more like 8/month.

Why the difference?

Jeff

P.S. Nevermind.... saw the post in the regular forum about new chassis' being sold in between lottery and later orders...

Probably realizing in a perfect world he could get out more, but with dyno breakdowns, servicing, holidays ect the number should be lower, in my opinion.

Regular orders cannot start delivery until at least June. Take 13 a month for luck...

We have just purchased a SRF. If anyone who has a reservation for the Gen 3 decides not to get the new engine, we would like to have a chance at their place in line. Thanks.
