Now that we're done the big conversion stuff, the current challenge is fitting alignment bars around the Gen 3 exhaust header. The type we have most commonly on the West coast fits over the upper rear frame rail, but there's not enough clearance under the header to fit the right side bracket. Looks like there's a marginal amount of space between the right side upper control arm mount and the header, but that would require cutting/welding. I borrowed the MSR alignment bars, but not a huge fan. Any other good options?

Bob, my rear alignment bar locates from the bottom frame member. You could borrow mine to see if it would work with the Gen 3 and if it does then you would a example to modify yours. I could drop it off at Dave's shop in a couple of weeks.

Bob (either one or both),
If it works-out, can you post some pictures?
Thanks,

Newbie question.. What are the other options to use for alignment besides the MSR alignment bars? Have you guys figured out the bar modifications for the Gen 3? I haven't seen much else used around the paddocks and I don't want to buy anything that won't work for our cars. Thanks guys.

I have similar question regarding alignment bars for Gen 3. any comments? Anyone using SmartStrings? Was thinking of purchasing those for flexibility of using on other street cars.

I spliced-in a 2" section on the right rear of my "traditional" alignment bars so that the mounting flange cleared the header. (Yes, I re-drilled the string hole to compensate!) Seems to be working fine.

Ed...the alignment bars that I lent to Bob Breton worked so well that he used them for a year. :o I had to get them back from him before I moved to Savannah earlier this year.

Missed your bars, Bob, so I had a set made up on the same concept. They clear both the standard and Laguna mufflers (thanks, Tony, for the fabrication!)

thanks bob,

I just had modified the older style alignment bars, basically flipped the middle piece that went under the airbox (gen 2) and put that on the bottom bar. made it level, took old frame pieces that were straight and worked from there. they have worked for me just fine, barley squeezing in the laguna muffler.

some pics...
