Some of you have seen this, but I got several requests to put it on YouTube (as opposed to Vimeo where it has been) so I did so. This is the "Dash" race from Gateway in St Louis in July, 2010, which turned out to be the last SCCA weekend (or any sanctioning body, perhaps?) there unless management changes and they make new plans.
The dash had us line up by fastest lap in our respective races, then calculated 19 laps (about 21 minutes) and started the cars in reverse order by overall expected time differential. I started last out of 29, 3:30 behind the first car to take off. The challenge was to a) survive and b) pass everyone (some more than once) to win the race. It worked out well in the end. :D .

You will notice that I was in "run whatever I have left that will fit on the car" mode since this was for fun. The tires were cobbled together from three different sets, two of which were someone else's throwaways, and I had flatspotted at least two of them really badly battling with Rich Wiese in the regional (some 30 minutes earlier) coming off the front straight onto the rumble strip that is the T1 braking zone. When I take my hand off the wheel to upshift to 4th coming on the straight you can see how badly the wheel is bouncing around from the imbalance. That, plus at least 12 heat cycles on the best tire, plus mid-90 degrees and high humidity made for less of a race car, and more of a "dance partner". :)
There are some good passes in this vid, and one near miss moment where 7 SRF's came together all just before T1... a scary proposition.

Enjoy!
Denny

Nice video Denny.

Gateway is back in business under new management. There are two SCCA Road Racing events planned for 2012, one in May and the other in late July.

Excellent news, Peter! I quite enjoyed the track, even given the fact that I am generally down on rovals in the "fun factor" department.

Hopefully we will see you there again sometime. I'm planning on running the May race.

Great drive, looked like a lot of fun. With all the steering input, it looks a lot like the recent video of the instructor driving the formula car round the snow covered Nordschliefe.
