COTA - Not PRO

Last year we had a SRF race at COTA in conjunction with the World Racing League Endurance event. We had good attendance, it was a different "feel" from any other COTA race (space between cars!!) and reasonably priced. We had 2- 30 min practices and a 30 min qualifying on Friday with a :45 minute race on Saturday AM.
We were recently contacted by Joey Todd who runs WRL to see if we would like to participate again this year. Please see below to express your interest:

"Hey guys, just checking in with you to see if there is any interest in running another SRF enduro at COTA this year on Dec 1? Enjoyed having you last year.

Thank you,
Joey Todd

Update from Joey Todd:
"Cost will be $375 including practice, qualifying and race

Race format will be the same as last year. 50 minute enduro on Saturday morning approx 8:30a. We will have registration open this weekend on DLB."

This is a great opportunity to race at COTA!

Registration is now open on DLB: http://www.dlbracing.com/default.aspx?view=1
Per Joey Todd: Just wanted to invite anyone interested to come race with us at Circuit of the Americas on December 1. Race is a 50-minute SRF-only heat on Saturday morning, with practice and qualifying on Friday.

Did Joey send-out any schedule info: when we can drop-off on Thursday (if at all), paddock restrictions, check-in time and place, when we're on-track Friday, and so forth. Perhaps he sent it out before I registered, since I registered pretty late: 11:00 PM yesterday.

OK, I found this that says that gates open at 6:00 PM Thursday and that registration for the SpecChallenge practice is from 6:45 AM to 7:40 AM on Friday. It also shows the SpecChallenge race as being on-grid at 7:45 AM Saturday:

http://worldracingleague.org/usec

I found this, that doesn't show an SRF practice session, just a 20 minute qual from 4:40 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday:

http://www.racewrl.com/PDS/COTA-Friday-schedule.pdf

I hope that's not right. I thought we had at least one practice session and a qual on Friday.

Certainly no sense coming-in on Thursday evening if we're not on-track until 4:40 PM on Friday!

I think we either practice in the race group or the most-advanced DE session. Personally, I have a ton of work to do so I'll probably see if they'll let me skip Friday and just start at the back in the race. There's only 13 cars entered and it's a long race so I'm not too concerned with starting position.

OK, they've put-out a new schedule at:

http://www.racewrl.com/PDS/COTA-Friday-scheduleB.pdf

We have practice on Friday from 3:34 PM to 3:56 PM and qual from 4:40 PM to 5:00 PM. I talked to Ian at WRL and he told me that he has a paddock section cordoned-off just for SRF and that there's no need to be at the track early Friday. As long as you leave enough time to check-in, unload, prep, and get to grid, you're fine. No need to be at an early AM meeting of any sorts.

OK, I think I'll kind of give-up now. Gary Glanger just called me and then he called WRL. Based on his call to WRL, we're allowed on-track in any of the sessions "at our own risk", keeping in mind that the other drivers on track may not be familiar with being on track with SRF's. It seems like I'm getting conflicting information and, as a result, I may be posting "fake news". At this point, I'm going to extricate myself from this by saying, "every man for himself". As for me, I'm now locked-in to leaving tomorrow and being at the track around lunch. So be it.

I would count how many cars go out in white vs the race group and go out with the smaller one :)

So I looked with some interest at the opportunity @ COTA.
Here is the Sunday Race Monitor details:
https://www.race-monitor.com/Results/Session/6556620

Was there a data drop after the first lap - or?? Inquiring minds want to know. I see the WRL detals from later all come in ok - so that is why I ask. Anybody have an answer?

Cheers - Jim
