Newbie here and recent purchaser of car #423 from the original owner. The original owner raced it a couple years, 1986-1987, and then placed it in dry storage until recently when he brought it to his residence. It still houses the original Sports Renault set-up and came with an additional Renault motor. The plan is to get her back on the track with my better half driving it in local vintage events. Bodywork has been delivered to the body shop today. A few other things needed include a new fuel bladder and safety belts. We are really looking forward to getting her back on the track. I will keep you posted from time to time on the progress.

Brings back memories to many of us old timers. Good luck in your efforts! And I thought I was the last holdout with the old mirrors!

And to think I actually broke one of them today while I was taking them off. I really hope I can find as replacement.

If you have not already done so, I would recommend reaching out to Beau Martin at Elite Autosport in Woodstock, IL. He is our local CSR and extremely knowledgeable on all three generations of Spec Racer.

Incredible opportunity for a working restoration of an original car. Wow. An actual vintage SR!

Who was the original owner? Btw, I have my original SR suspension arms (lower) if you need replacements.

Post some photos. Since there are no restrictions now on the engine you might consider an overhaul and "tuning" of the Renault. Someone said that with proper "massaging" they were seeing north of 130 HP.

Thanks a bunch. It has been really fun so far getting it broken down. Going thru it I have found some little things that need attention. The body work is at the body shop and should be done next week. I am heading back to the sand blasting place this morning and I am going to clean up the wheels prior to either powder coating or painting. I was able to get most of the suspension pieces bead blasted earlier in the week. I am also considering a set of Shelby wheels and awaiting a call back from Elite. Here is a few more pics of the progress.

Thanks Peter. I have been in contact with Beau and he has been great. He is getting some parts together for me. I hope to make a trip down to him next week.

As a non-spec, due diligence may have you doing some "other than" CSR shopping too. If the CSR can give you a good deal -- go for it, they support the fleet!

I saved about 200 bucks on my fuel cell. Remember, Summit Racing is our SCCA "sponsor" too.
When you do the fuel cell do get an internal pump, and fuel gauge if you can.

Belts - That is often a matter of many opinions. I like (and have installed) the TeamTech climbing harness-style sub strap, lumbar tie in and sternum strap. I went a bit extreme having had a head-on with an RX-7.

Similarly, I'm liking the wear characteristics of the Toyo R888s, and will move to the R888Rs when these go out - but that won't be until next season! (OK I give up 4 seconds a lap at Sebring, just for the tires, but there is that and some given up in HP too!)

Fire System - I'll go with a DIY refillable when I need a replacement.

You must be working indoors - lots of progress being made!
