Many of y’all old timers probably knew Jim Averett. Jim tragically died Friday in a plane crash near Fredericksburg, Tx. Jim was a military and professional pilot for 40+ years. He was involved in a Bonanza Formation Flying club that does shows in many venues. During practice one plane had a mechanical issue and as Jim was escorting him to a place to land they collided and Jim crashed. Jim was the first CSR in the SW Division, was a long time FV racer and was a long time Stewart including Chief Stewart of the Runoffs. Jim sold me my first Sports Renault #22 in 1985 and helped me a lot. He was a wonderful man and liked and loved by all who knew him. RIP Jim!

Truly sad news. Jim was a quick driver and a extremely nice man. The sport has lost a gem.
It's better to be last on the grid at a race track, than have pole position at the Funeral Home.
