From what I understand, this curbing is in effect FIA with the hopes of luring ALMS to VIR since they lost Grand-Am this year.

Assuming we're looking down track...Laguna has that kind of curbing on inside apex. But what Laguna does to prevent people from hooking wheels over the curbing is install a huge concrete "pillow" right at the inside of the apex. If you hit that it will hurt! The pillows are removed for MC races. And that style curbing is not that bad, it's the unloaded side of the car. It becomes part of the track ;)

Hard to see the relief in this clip, but all the blue/white apex curbing is that style (you can see cars bouncing over it) and you can also see the infamous red apex pillows as well. http://vimeo.com/11420213

I believe LimeRock has that curbing at Westbend, or at least they used to.

It's hard to figure out what that curbing is supposed to accomplish. In the esses, I don't recall anyone using that much curbing.

People were going 4-6 feet inside of the curb copying the World Challenge, Grand Am guys. Some even straight through the one of the turns. PT and IT people were the worst.

Here's an example of someone abusing it to the extreme lap after lap.

ALMS to VIR in 2012. Explains the new curbing. Considering they are going to be on 4.1 mile course that's a lotta curbing.
