Anyone know what inspired this? I don't think other SCCA classes have a location requirement for the transponder.

I saw that too. We must have followed the same link trail. There never was a spec location, but it does make sense to have one. I believe this was a spec location many years ago for one of the pro SRF series. |

Maybe our finishes are getting too close for comfort.
We've already had one race this year that transponder scoring indicated a win to the second place car. I assume transponder location was the reason since finish is eyeball. ...or, they got wind of my plan to have a sliding transponder for qualifying. H.(would it count if I threw my transponder across the line?)B. |

Arrgh! Now I will have to move my transponder from the bowsprit!

Mark: It doesn't necessarily say that your transponder needs to be on YOUR car. |

HB- Funny you bring that up, in go karts the transponder was the rechargeable kind that needed the clip in mount. The standard location was on the side pod, within reach of the driver. A few times a drivers transponder "fell off" during qualifying. It was amazing he had the field covered by a few tenths...it probably had to do with him chucking it forward at start finish? About 4-5 years ago T. Harris and I had a great battle at AAA Speedway that I clearly finished 2nd in, but the results said I "won". Timing and scoring even said I was visually the winner. I had to argue with them repeatedly that I did NOT win the race...they reluctantly changed the results and moved me to 2nd. I also suspect if Cliff had his transponder in the back, I would have "won" the Runoffs this year. I probably wouldn't have been so honest and open if they awarded me that win though So...spec transponder location is a good thing if you ask me! |
As I recall, per the GCR, close finishes are officially judged by eyeball by the race starter. Is that going to change?
(Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to work putting the finishing touches on my transponder launcher...) |

The location is nice and all, but that frame rail gets screwed up alot in crashes.
I liked to put them on the backside of the diagonal near the RH sway bar mount. |

I like how they changed it without even talking to us.
And aren't they supposed to send us these Technical Notices? Bruce Funderburg

Early on, when I used to work on timing stuff, someone got caught walking a transponder back and forth on pit lane next to the loop in sync with their car going over the s/f line to get a better qualifying time.
