It's time to replace the Interstate battery that came with the car. I can't find (or maybe read) the battery group number so I'm looking for some suggestions from the Forum. I know that its a 340 CCA type and is 7.5"L x 5"W X 6.5"T. What is the Group number and is it worth the money to upgrade to a better type or not. What are you guys running? Thanks.

The battery is a U1 for lawn tractors. I have used Autozone brand for 15 years and have had good results with them (2-4 year life). Get the best CCA they have in stock.

Agreed w/ Dave P. I usually swap mine out every 2 years, and put the used one in the lawn tractor. It makes me feel like I'm driving faster when I cut my yard...

Definitely go for 300-plus amp hours in a U1. Not only do they crank more reliably, I've found they last longer too. It's the only way to go.

Thanks everyone for the information. I figured that the battery might have been from some sort of ATV or motorcycle based on the small size. What I didn't know was if there was some new technology battery out there that might make better sense to get. Less weight, more Amps, longer life, more $$. Probably better investing the extra money into a driver fitness program to save weight.

There are absolutely better batteries (lighter, stronger), but it's a spec class and that's the spec battery. |

You can buy a Lithium battery - same size - is legal - but about $500. But is saved about 8#.

Which is great if you need it to get down to minimum weight. Otherwise you have to add weight, and the legal place to add weight is not as favorable as the battery location! |
