Hey all, whats a normal amount of play to have on the steering shaft? I feel like have a decent amount play in the steering shaft, and I am wondering if a brand new steering rack should be tighter?

If you can feel it, it's probably pretty bad. ;) You can get them rebuilt for a reasonable price.

It's been a few years, so I don't know if the info is correct, but Woodhaven did mine.

Rod, JoshO and others: Woodhaven is long gone and the new outfit that builds and rebuilds our racks is:

The Chassis Shop
1931 N. 24th Street
Mears, MI 49436

www.ChassisShop.com
800-530-9494 orders
231-873-3640 other inquiries

Sorry I cannot remember the guy's name that rebuilds our racks. He took awhile to do mine in early 2014 because they had to make up a bunch of gear racks on a CNC but the results were amazing and I felt like I had a new rack and no slop. 2014 price shipped to me was about $320.
Hope that helps.
Ask John Walsh what slop is acceptable. I think his steering wheel went about 1.5 inches on each side off front deadcenter and he was still good on the track
