What is a good brake bias adjuster for my SRF? The one on my car is total junk ... Sticky and I don't think it really adjusts much anyway.

Thanks

It helps to service them every few years. ;)

Enterprises has a newer one available, with a blue knob, that is much better than the red one.

I figured I didn't need it - people keep saying "less brake" !
Do they make a larger size gas pedal that's GCR legal??

Thanks - I will ask about the "blue knob"

I have a brake bias gauge and have noticed the following;

1.not sure what the threads/inch are on the balance bar, but half a turn does nothing. It takes several turns to get a one or two percent change.

2. I find I need to press and release the brakes several times to make the bearing slide to a new position before I see the change "settle in"..

I'd be interested to hear if other folks see the same effects.
It's better to be last on the grid at a race track, than have pole position at the Funeral Home.

I had a similar problem. The solution was replacing the cable. I found that the cable was binding and not moving easily. I also took the bias assembly completing apart and cleaned the inside of the cylinder too.

I have a bias reading on my CDS, and I see the same effects. In the dry, my bias is set to 60. Yesterday, I was able to spend the day testing in the rain and it took about 4 or 5 complete turns to drop the bias to 57. I've also found that I need to press and release the brake pedal several times to work the change through to the bias bar.

WD-40 on the bias bar adjuster threads works wonders. Also, I'm not so sure I'd go with bias numbers, but actual brake balance feel when doing adjustments. If the fronts lock first, crank it back two turns at a shot until it feels balanced. If it's tail happy under braking, same thing to the front.

For sure, keep an eye out for any binding in the balance bar adjuster. It should move with every click stop position of the standard red Tilton knob. If it binds at all and takes more than a click to move to bar pivot, find out why and fix it! Usually all it takes is WD-40 on the threads, maybe a dab of white grease behind the adjuster knob.

If it's binding and you keep cranking on the knob what happens is not good. And it happened to me last year when I forgot to check the bias adjuster system. The fronts were locking and I kept cranking on rear brake with no effect. That is until the bound up cable suddenly unloaded and spun a whole bunch o' bias onto the rear -- at once! Result? A spin under braking entering Turn 6 at the Glen. (Thanks for missing me, Pat Stringer!)

i'm taking my srf to motion dynamics in a week or so for some "optional upgrades" and they will fixup the bias issue for me. i think i remember seeing a nice bias bar somewhere as well - mine has this weird cylinder in the middle of it which just looks clunky and doesnt seem to work well.

Does it look like this (without the jam nuts on either side of the central shuttle)?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-3 ... /overview/

If so, it's just missing the tube that covers the shuttle in the middle.

Edit: Oops! Can't be, that tube is welded to the brake pedal!

With the tube, it looks like this:

Here's a good "how to" on balance bar installation and adjustment:
