All:

The GCR specifies a pan thickness of 0.060" which is 3 or 4/1000s of an inch thinner than a standard 14 gauge aluminum panel (0.063-4"). Would it be safe to assume that I can re-skin with the standard 14 gauge?

Either way, I'm tempted to try to get the GCR amended.

There is no official guage standard for aluminum, according to one of the sources I referenced (http://www.alascop.com/pdf/sheet_gauge_charts.pdf)

It's commonly sold in .060" size with a tolerance of +-.005", which is consistent with the current GCR specification.

So, I cannot source a single sheet that fits the entire bottom, so I'm left to figure out the best way to divide it up. Given that the rigid "core" of the car is the four main rails, I'm inclined to use three lengthwise strips, one boxing in the main rails, and then "wings" on the outer sponsons of the car. This might also come in handy if I bang up a side.

The alternative is to break it up lengthwise at the main crossmember.

Thoughts?

I did it in three parts so that the center is seamless from front to back, followed by left and right side. Can do it with 1.5 sheets, so find a friend and buy three sheets (4x8)

Ric Heer from CSR Performance had the sheet aluminum, so I'm not sure of the spec. He has a large brake to cut and bend the sheets (he makes nose pans and rub rails from the same material), so it was pretty straight-forward to cut to size (and use the leftover material for rub rails). Happy to pass on his contact info if you need the info. I would assume a harder compound like 6061 would be desirable, but I'll let those more knowledgeable pipe in.
