1. Get the correct cable to connect to the ECU - A special cable from your CSR or PE which is RJ45 at the PC end (plugs into a network port) and USB 1.0 at the ECU. Use of a standard USB 2.0/3.X cable at the PC end will probably fry the communications hardware of the ECU. The ECU will function, but you won't be able to communicate with it. You'll need a new ECU.

2. To save time, find out what version of ECU you have, 37 or 50. The software (PE3Monitor) has versions specific to your ECU version. If you don't know which, the software will tell you when you attempt to connect.

3. Get and install the correct PC software (PE3Monitor) downloaded from the SCCA-E site which has both.

4. Turn off the PC firewall for public networks. Don't forget to turn it back on when you're done.

5. Make sure your ECU is powered. For me this requires turning on the master and ignition switches.

6. Start PE3Monitor and select Direct when asked to search for the ECU - this is when you'll discover whether you have the correct software matching the ECU. If it's wrong, uninstall the wrong one, download and install the right one.

7. Select "Data Acquisition / CAN Bus" drop down menu and select the first item "Setup and Control"

8. From the window that pops up, first select the channels that you want to download (probably all channels) and select the duration of download. As I recall, the most you can download is the most recent 65 minutes or so of engine run time.

Good luck
