If you are seeing this message, you are accessing specracer.com from our new location!

Several years ago, Ken Grammer took over administration of specracer.com, and then ushered us into the twenty-teens by implementing this nice new phpBB system. A couple weeks ago, Ken expressed a desire to have someone else run the board so he could pursue other interests.

As a recovering IT guy, I try to avoid getting involved with computers other than for fun. But I have been doing a little work "undercover" and had all the bandwidth and storage capacity to handle the board. And since I view this as one of the best resources available to SRF racers, it seemed like close enough to "fun" to pick up the whole thing.

Anyway, we've been busy since then planning the migration. As it turns out, Ken had done a great job of making everything portable, so it only took a couple days for me to automate and test the migration. We were planning on announcing things in advance and waiting until a quite time to cutover. But after another dry run went really well last night, Ken pulled the trigger this morning.

So if you are seeing this message, you are looking at specracer.com in it's new place in the "cloud", if you see the board is locked, that means the news hasn't arrived in your portion of cyberspace.

Everything (is/should be) transparent to users. There are a couple things that I couldn't test fully, but it looks like they are all working. If you see anything wrong, drop me a message at dave@hse.com

Thanks Rod, we were wondering where you are at. - You should stop in and see Mark (Minnesota) Kaufman.

Thanks for taking this over Dave! Ken did a great job of bringing the site up to date but I understand why he might want to pass it on to a qualified person. You are without a doubt qualified to do this with what I last saw more than twice the number of posts than the nearest other member. I wish you all the best with this and know you will serve the community well.

I'll have to set up my cloud-spec keyboard now!

Is it too soon to ask if the archives can be brought online?

The search is on, rumor has is it they are somewhere in a barn near Road America.

Actually, it appears our last hope is Mr. Levin...

We expect to make no major changes for a while. I need to:

1. See how perception matches with reality
2. Focus on racing for a while
3. Make sure things stay stable (no more lost archives)

There are a couple things I need to take care of for safety and maintenance reasons. Then I am going to come up with a longer-term plan.
