We are taking two cars to Oakland Coliseum tomorrow to take another try at the short races. Going to let a couple of our AutoX friends give it a try...

Good luck!

Yeah, I agree, also the potential for blowing up a differential is there. The courses they run here usually have a feature at the start that makes coming off the line hard counter-productive.

This is more of a social thing.

The tires never get a chance to heat up anyway.

The Oakland Coliseum unexpectedly bumped us to the northwest lot just yesterday. It is a far smaller area than we are used to - no one can remember ever running it before - and it has some obstructions, so we will need to improvise to build a safe course. I am going to be the Lead Safety Steward for the event, so I'll need to be there earlier than usual to help the course designer. Also, we are running Safety Classes before the event so it will be a little hectic. I'd recommend you try to be there by 8:00 if you have a morning run group.

Don't forget if you have draft cards, we accept them (I think it's 4 boxes checked) for your $35 entry fee. See you there- cool.

We are 3rd group, pm I am told. I think the NW lot is easier to find, it would be a PITA driving all the way around the stadium with the big trailer. :) Although we need a hunk of space to park... We plan on demonstrating 5/10's driving, I think I've made it clear to everybody how just hitting a cone is a lot different in a f/g car than a steel one...

I have never understood the clutch issue, and this is the first mention I have seen of a diff issue. Why would we have issues given that our car is 1000 lbs lighter than the Escort the clutch & diff was designed for?

I normally autocross the SRF a couple times of year as a shakedown before a race. The only problem I have is the common road raing car problem of a relatively large turning radius and terrible classing (classed in CM against the FF).

I find that Hoosier R25 22x8-13 takeoff slicks help a lot with the tire temp issues and don't burn up my road race tires. I have considered trying the old soft (& now illegal) wets as a Solo tire, as it seems a better use than just throwing them out.

I always worry about new drivers being hard on the clutch. And it seems lie a lot of Auto-X'ers either dump or slip the clutch.
The other big concern would be from having the inside wheel spin and grab in a tight turn... Hard on the clutch and we had a diff explode last year (at a road race) and that's what appeared to happen...
We are definitely not competitive in CM. Our competition was a FF on $1000 slicks. Both our cars were on leftover Enduro tires. I brought some old rains, but was too lazy put them on...

We were actually in B Modified, against a FM...

http://www.sfr-solo.org/solo2/Results/2 ... und04.html

I had two DNFs (again). The third run I was so busy try to deal with understeer, I got completely lost.

I learn something every time, though.
