There is a 2012 thread that talks about 2 drivers who were injured in accidents with production cars in combined sessions. At that time some lamented that the class had stalled a bit anticipating the new drivetrain and the resultant increase in price. Others were concerned that if SRF was always run separately, they would be excluded from some regional events.
There are videos of accidents, like this one with a Spec Miata:

How often are SRF cars put on the track with production cars often weighing 50% to more than double their weight and with high enough waistlines to make seeing an SRF behind or alongside difficult.

If you choose to race in an Enduro - all classes and vehicles are in.
Also, I run in SPU (regional), so there is a wide mix of size and power [but all under 2.5L/non-turbo/supercharged]. We get Mustangs, VW, Miata, NASCAR Baby Grand, etc. I did "buy" my first Spec Racer (Gen2) @ Turn 16 Sebring. I was "blind" behind 2 mazdas, they split and there was an RX-7 dead in the track waiting for me... almost missed her- but not quite. But then again, that was a Sprint race and we had plenty of Spec Racers. So, I'll add - it's not just them seeing "us" but we gotta keep sight-line too. Cheers - Jim When I used to fly, I was called an AVIATOR.
Now, I race cars. So, am I called a PAVIATOR? |

I've had that happen to me twice in late model stock cars. In the last one I wrapped the radiator around the engine and bent the steering wheel inside out. Officials and spectators said they heard my engine racing but I was pressing the brake pedal with both feet. My guess is my right foot was trapped in cage stock cars have around the throttle. After that I added a piece for Coleman Racing that cuts power to the ignition if brake pressure exceeds a threshold that defaults to 900psi. We credit it with avoiding a guardrail a year later. But the mixed classes are a problem. Dramatically reduces the safety. I've seen videos with SRF thrown in with much slower sedans and with much faster P1s/P2s. The result is always bad. |

Depends where you race. West Coast regions all have separate run groups. However on test days, you may have a mixed groupings. The only incident I can recall involved a Ferrari, his fault and a $25000 bill for the door.

SEDiv often has SRF racing with the lighter production cars. But weirdly, for test days and Time Trials we almost always run with the slower formula cars.
