Sorry for the newbie question but without the old site I can't find out the difference , gear wise , between the two. I have watched the "how to" video on how to change the gear but I do not see any info on where to get the gear and what the difference is. I purchased a SRF this week that still had the old fifth gear in it.
Thanks for the help!

The new 5th gear is a little shorter at .77. Contact your CSR to buy the new gear and associated hardware or you can go to Midwest Spec Racer and order it online.

Thanks Bob, does anyone know what the old one is # wise? I did note that there is an early transmission that is not compatible with the update, is there a serial number cut off or range?
Do folks still run on the old fifth gear or is the update so different that it walks away from the old one? |

i want to say the old one was like .81. And no one runs it or uses it; you'll get passed every time you shift into it!

I was forced by mechanical trouble to run the old 5th gear at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I swear I lost RPMs going through NASCAR 3 & 4, as everyone just pulled away. If you can't use it on a superspeedway I suspect you can't use it anywhere.

Old 5th was 0.73, new is 0.77. If you shift at 5600, the new gear puts you at 4445 after the shift. While the old gear would be 4214. That extra 200+ rpm really helps the car pull in 5th gear.

I think the gear needs to be installed by a CSR if you want your car to remain SCCA legal.

Nope, it's under the black (unsealed) cover... Dave Harriman
